Gold Leaf

After studying fresco painting, illuminated writing, and gold leaf application in Northern Italy, I began to experiment with how I might use these in my own works of art. In the “Gold Leaf Series,” I wanted to apply the metal leaf but also incorporate the use of oil paints and mixed media. I built stories into my paintings through the use of photos, paper and fabric before applying the different metal leaf. I enjoy using gold, copper, and silver leaf. This series was produced before I made the conscious decision to switch from tubes of paint to mixing my own using organic materials.
